Vampires in Sims 3

Vampires in Sims 3 were introduced with the Late Night EP, and differ from vampires in Sims 2 in a few ways. The most obvious are that they can go out in sunlight without bursting into flame, and that they aren't immortal - they do age but at a much slower rate than a normal sim.

How To Tell Them Apart From Other Sims

Female vampire in the foreground and a male changing into one in the background.

Vampires' eyes are not a different colour to normal sims, but they do glow. Their skintone will be paler than it would be if they were a normal sim, and has a slight yellow tinge to it. And, obviously, they have fangs.

Features

  • They do age, but much slower (about 5x) than normal sims.
  • They can go 'on the hunt'. This option appears by clicking on the ground in a place where other sims are present. The vampire will look around and identify the best-tasting sim in the vicinity. This sim will show up under their relationship panel with a purple background, and they can be identified on the map by an icon, meaning that your vampire will always be able to find the best blood without having to look for it.
  • They can go out in the daylight without dying but only for a short period of time. If they stay out too long they get a bad moodlet (Scorched), and when the countdown is over they will die.
  • They can reproduce and have the chance of giving birth to a vampire child.
  • They will only bite the neck of a sim they are in a romantic relationship with. If the willing victim is just a friend then they will bite their wrist.

Pros

  • They can run super fast.
  • They have mind reading skills. Vampires can read other sims' minds to find out their traits, career, favourites, relationship, and sign. They can also make another sim think about them.
  • They can learn skills at an accelerated rate at night.
  • They get a positive moodlet (Vampiric Vigor) at night.

Cons

  • Celebrity vampires can also get a bad rumour for biting sims.
  • Celebrities who woohoo with vampires can end up with a bad rumour circulating about them.
  • They do not like garlic.

How to Become a Vampire

When you have found one you will need to befriend them - it's a precious gift, vampires won't just bite anyone - and then click on them and choose the option 'ask to turn'. If the sim doesn't have a good enough relationship with the vampire then they will refuse. If they accept then they will bite the sim's wrist and the sim will be surrounded by a red cloud with bats in (as seen in the picture above).

The sim won't change instantly: the process takes three sim days. Immediately after being bitten they will get a neutral moodlet which lasts until the tranformation is complete, and over the next three days a few notifications from your sim might pop up about their bite marks.

When the sim transforms the same red cloud with bats surrounds them and their eyes start glowing, their skin pales, and they get fangs.

Feeding

Vampire sims don't eat real food. Oh no. They like tasty blood, aka Plasma. There are four ways in which a vampire sim can feed:

Fridge

They can drink Plasma Juice from the fridge (under 'quick meals').

Plasma Fruit

They can eat Plasma Fruit. When a sim becomes a vampire they will get some sent to them in the mail, and it can also be purchased at the grocery store. This can be planted.

Other Sims

They can feed off of other sims by clicking on the sim and choosing 'drink' - this can be rejected if the relationship between the sim and the vampire isn't high enough. The sim who has been fed off will have lowered energy as a result.

Raids

They can raid the hospital for packs of Plasma Juice, or the grocery store for Plasma Fruit.

Curing Vampirism

If you've had enough of playing a creature of the night, your sim can be cured by taking a visit to the Science Facility and purchasing a bottle of the cure for $3,000. They don't have to drink it right away; it can be stored in their inventory until needed.
